I have a MVP Thunder Ranch 5.56 that I am thinking of using as a truck gun. Can anyone suggest an optic for it? I am thinking either a 1x red dot or low variable scope. One thing I am worried about is durability (temp. changes, banging around in truck). Open to suggestions.

I prefer the low, variable powered scope option. Almost as fast as a red dot at 1X but finer aim and magnification available when you need it. Plus, I think a scope looks better on a more traditional looking rifle.

If you do choose to go the red dot route, I hear Bushnell TRS-25 are very reliable and are a good buy for the money.

the old standby 3x9x40 . I have a sightron 3x9 si-tac on my thunder ranch . 3 power is still low enough for close shots and 9 power will get you to 300 yds easy enough. I have dragged mine around for a couple of years now love the rifle and the scope I dont hold my rifle by the barrel and swing it like a ball bat against a tree but I dont baby it either , 4 wheeler , tractor or pickup and walking up and down the hills in the ozarks . the scope can be had for around 160-170 dollars .

Sorry if I'm resurrecting an old thread - I haven't been here in a while. I use a Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 and love it. Recently swapped it for a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 that was given to me. Going to try that out and see how I like it, but I'm betting that I'll switch back to the 2-8.
