Background- mostly varmint shooter, always roll my own ammo. Few years back bought a 5.56 MVP varminter just because, did OK on the factory barrel but not really up to 1/4 MOPD (minute of prairie dog) on long strings. Liked the appeal of using AR mags (converted a Savage LRPV to use AR mags a few years back) because high mag capacity on a bolt action is a plus in a target rich environment. First- bed action. 2nd- New barrel. 223 AI (because I didn't have one, and have lots of 223 cases, have 20 Prac, 6x45, 6TCU, etc.). MAJOR improvement. F that asinine NATO chamber. 3rd- Jard 12oz. Starting to like it a lot more now. Never had any issue with misfires, extraction etc. that are commonly reported. Some mags feed better than others (duh). And trust me on this, I *WILL* find the absolute maximum load the case will handle and be reloadable. It ain't a horrible design. It ain't a benchrest rifle. It is what it is- its now a viable varminting setup as good as any other I own. Due to the light weight and mag OAL restrictions they are begging to be converted to a 223 based 20 or 17. I should have gone 20 Prac on the MVP.
