Call up black hole weaponry / columbia river arms and have them cut you a savage 10 barrel in 7mm-08. Get the faster twist of the 2 available. They're epic barrels. Order a savage barrel but and barrel nut wrench and screw that bad boy in.

    I originally thought that this
was a cover for the barrel
Nut,but realized that it is the
    Barrel nut.
    Unfortunately . Their are no
    YouTube showing a barrel
    Swap with the mossberg
    MVP 7.62
    everyone else but no Mossberg
i watched several for my ruger
    Which was great
But non for my mvp rifle.

my barrel was tightened on by Billy Joe Bubba or possibly all 3 of them. I fmade up a spanner wrench but stripped out that shallow hole, then broke out the pipe wrench, nadda, so grabbed the dremel and a cut off blade and sliced thru it. There was no Loctite, but man, dunno what they use to tighten those on with!!!!

the 243 takeoff barrel worked fine, I did have a Satern 45 Raptor barrel on it to check for feeding but ended up putting that barrel on a Savage.

My intent is to put a Creed barrel on it at some point when funds allow.

Fret not. If you're in NorCal I can help directly, just PM me. If not, see below.

    My method:

Cinched old barrel down in a bench vise, grab a nice big pipe wrench (monkey wrench) and set it up on the barrel nut snug it up to the barrel nut good, swat the living shit out of it with a hammer at the end of the monkey wrench (leverage, force, follow through and violence of action are the secret sauces). Once you've removed it you can replace it with a good one from PTG.

Like Al, my barrel was clearly fastened on by either an Icelandic body builder or a very large Russian brown bear. It took a couple tries to get the monkey wrench to work and a surprising lot of force and follow through with the hammer. If you don't really smack it it'll just pop off after making some deep gouges in the barrel nut.

    I think mcgowen barrels
Can make what i need to
    Make my mvp an accurate
    rifle.
I priced out a small shank
    Savage barrel with specs
I want. approx 400 plus shipping.
    I know Savage barrel doesn't
    Screw into my threads,but
    Just needed approx cost.
But i do need to send in my action
    To measure threads and
    Fit Barrel. Slight additional
    Cost.

Some used a pipe wrench because the nut was on so tight. Others ordered the needed wrench but I’m drawing a blank on where from. Tromix??? It’s here in at least one of the barrel swap threads with a link.

    Thanks Keith,
I definitely can get it off
With a pipe wrench , but
Wanted to save the barrel nut
Unless i know it can be replaced
With one that will fit back into
    The MDT chassis, without grinding
away some of the chassis .

There is a company with machinery in the name that might have the tool as well. They sell a hex barrel nut that fits MVPs but it might only be the 5.56 models. In any case, if you look in the “what fits” thread, you can look for the barrel nut and thus the company that might have the tool.

    Found pacific tools( ptg)
They list a barrel nut and
    tool for the hex replacement
    Nut. Have to contact them
If dimensions of nut , will
Fit my MDT- lss chassis ?
If i look at the bottom of my
    Barrel nut and action. The
    action touches the chassis
in two places front and back
Left and right side of action.
    Barrel nut rests on chassis
    Left and right side also.
Not sure if hex nut will
Lay flat, like factory nut ?

Check their web site to see if they have the tool that is needed to remove the nut. From what I remember, it has an adjustable pin/screw to lock into the hole on the barrel nut so you can break it loose with a breaker bar or ratchet. Either Pacific Tool, Tromix, or both have the tool. Like I said before, at least one of the barrel change threads talks about it and where they got it.

I’m currently deployed and don’t have a computer I can access forums (government computers block them), so I can’t look for you. Cell phone functionality on websites has limitations.

    Thanks much,
I did look at these two
    Sites
    ptg makes a hex nut,
But will not fit in a
    MVP lc( light chassis )
    Factory barrel nut is
    Round and rests on the
    aluminum chassis, hex
    nut will not.
I need to make sure i remove
    My barrel nut without
    damage. Just haven't
    found wrench. Still looking
    And be safe.

I can check the savage slotted and smooth nuts tonite for diameter, pretty sure they are smaller than the factory.

    Mossberg nut 1.345 x 1" long

    Savage smooth nut 1.345 x .875 long

    Savage slotted 1.300 x .875 long

either of them should work fine.
