I'm wanting to turn my predator into a carbine, Iron sights, a short barrel and such. I had an idea to put a rear iron sight onto the rear receiver drilling (not the weaver itself, the holes under it). However, I haven't been able to find an iron sight that would fit into those holes like the weaver base does.
    This might? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/69...t-assembly-remington-700-870-less-base-screws
So my question is, does anyone make a sight similar to this, or a ghost ring, that fits the rear drilling?

Williams FP sight for the Remington 700.
The MVP uses Remington 700 bases so the sight would likly fit as well.

I want to know your game plan for the front sight.

I was thinking a simple rugged protected blade or post, something along the lines of an M1 or M14 or the like.

Close, but Im not looking for a peep sight. A ghost ring or a simple blade is more suitable. Think m1 carbine or Mosin Nagant. The reason I want the rear sight on the receiver instead of just a dovetail mount on the barrel is for the extra sight radius.
The front sight will pretty much have to be a dovetail mount covered post

I think Williams has the front sight matching your description.
The aperture "peep" discs unscrew from the Williams and Lyman rear sights.
That's what we mean in my neck of the woods when we say "Ghost Ring";)

Nice! I smell a plan coming together! I need to get my hands on a 18.5" MVP Predator and start experimenting.

If you want an AR style sight, there are no lack of parts around, it would be the front post height that would be the concern. If you were sticking to irons only, it wouldn't be a problem but what is the plan for irons and optics.

Tumble weeds plan is a iron sighted carbine. Mine is a good set of back up irons.

I would like a rear on the barrel but then something on the rail for the rear. The XS ones they built for the GSR would be nice, the ghost ring rear on the rail, something simple like that. I too would plan for them as a backup. I wouldn't need them to be super like running BUIS on an AR type rifle.

The MVP will only gain popularity and market share as other models and calibers are released........seems like an opportunity to make a few bucks off of accessories to me.

I like, I like, particularly the front. Do you have the Brownells stock codes for these? Relax, stop looking, found them....

Bear in mind that I've not checked the height of these two sights yet.

I think the front one will surely be too low, especially on my sporter weight barrel. But certainly, along those lines, especially for the front would be great.

I just got a MVP Varmit.

I want to use this rifle in NY state for High Power Rifle competition. I live in VT. Would you believe they won't allow me to bring my AR into the state, even for sanctioned matches.

I need to mount some decent iron sights, tho I don't want to pay more for them than I did for the rifle.

Phoenix, RPA and Centris sights are a bit out of my price range right now, tho would probably be just right, so maybe later.

I've been looking at Lyman. I use them on my Savage MkII (I don't like Williams). and they work well for me. Also Tech sights I use those on my 10/22s

I had a thought about mounting my RRAs NM carry handle and using a clamp on high front sight front-sight-long-range.jpg If I can find one with the right diameter clamp.

I would love a good iron sight setup on my Patrol

I emailed XS about a front site set up to pair with their low weaver backup and this was their response:

"That is something we are looking into right now but it will be a month of so until we might have any data to work with so please check back."

I would drop them a line to tell them that you are interested.

My Patrol has Williams firesights on them, but I took them off. Coming from 10+ years of shooting M1As and Ar15s, I can't stand them.

Curious if the MDT stock with a Night vision hood could be used to mount AR sights - would be dependent on if the hood is on the same level as the picatinny rail, and if it will hold zero.

Williams makes a WGRS-700 that would fit in place of the scope block.
Also, a Williams FP - Target model would fit on the side of the action.
A Williams Ace in the hole combination rail with rear sight might be modified to fit.

I just ordered a Leapers UTG Picatinny Mount for Mossberg MVP 5.56mm Bolt Action Rfl, should have it on Friday.

I got one thru ebay, wasn't the best deal, but they had it in stock. Under $30

I'm probably going to mount a Leapers UTG Model 4/15 Match-Grade Detachable Rear Sight, under $30

They also show Model 4/16, but the windage adjustment is on the left side.

Front sight is somewhat problematic. I need to put a caliper on the barrel, find the diameter and if it has a taper. Then a barrel band of some sort to mount a dovetail.

    [IMG][IMG]

If I can't find one to fit, I probably can have one machined.
