Over the past several weeks the MVP site staff and friends have been kicking around the idea of sponsoring a competitive shooting event known as a "Postal Match". For those who have never heard of a Postal Match, it's a way to organize a shooting competition and overcome the logistics of everyone having to physically be at the competition. Each member would be supplied a specific target and complete the target on their home turf or favorite shooting hole. A pic of the scored target and firearm used would then be Posted in a results thread. The competition would last for 30-60 days, giving everyone more than enough time to participate. There are some rules and guidelines of course, and the honor system will be applied to the scoring. This is meant to be a fun competition and build some comradery in our shooting community. Besides that, it's another reason to get out and burn some powder!

Are there to be different distances? My usual range goes out to 200yds, but not much past that. I'd definitely be interested in signing up, whichever way!

Welcome to the MVP ecliptix543! Great question! I believe we will have 3 firearm categories and distances. An MVP rifle only category with the distance at 100 yds, a rimfire category with the distance at 50 yds and a shoot what you brung(open class) probably 25-50 yds.

Great idea! I think will drive some great discussion - might also be a "factory" vs. "handload" class? And are we going with group size or bullseye?

Thanks for the welcome! I picked up my MVP Varmint a few months ago and I think I read every post on here while I was waiting for it to come in to the store. I've only gotten it to the range once so far, with 60 rounds and frequent cleanings for break-in. It's more or less within minute-of-golf ball at 200 with a variety of bullets, though it prefers 69SMK and 55VM. I'd sign up for the 100yd MVP and 50yd rimfire classes - my Savage 93 22WMR prints dimes at 100 all day long so it'll be one ragged hole at 50!

Why don't we call it MVPs only at 100 yards and mix everything else up?

You could vary points or group size, bipod/sling/free, standing/kneeling/sitting/prone, optic/iron, maybe a mad minute? Pick a something different for each match.

Everybody here should have a MVP and this format would demonstrate the different ways they're used. It would probably keep the winners rotating. It'd also be educational for the newer shooters to see the limitations of each approach and just how good people can get at them with a little practice.

Match of the month - use a posted/printable target (for ease of distribution) - give rules/distance and the goal - smallest group, most shots, etc. Almost all will be optics, but could have an irons match for the patrol/thunder ranch crowd. Give the ability to post videos of the results and go from there.

I really like the idea, just have to define the structure of it.
