Okay here we go again. Mike and I have been working on this for sometime now. We know that the original Mag Well has a few issues, not with function just with slop. So here are a couple of photos just to show you guys we are getting very close. We had a prototype made today just for test fitting. As you can see in the photo the well does hang down out of the bottom, but level with the mag release. With that said, we are trying to get this project finished and working like we think it should.

What are the plans for the actual magwell to be made out of? Do you plan to extend it out of the stock or leave it as shown above? Im in for one.

The actual mag well will be made from aluminum. We extended the bottom to help support the magazine and keep the rocking back in forth to a minimum. The mag feels really nice when in the mag well with only a small amount of play. We still have a couple of things we need to check on then we will have one made from the actual material we intend to use.

Ditto, I'm in for one. I like the extended look, and the less mag movement the better.

Yep, add me to the buy list. very excited for this and the extractors! Would be cool if the magwell is flared like most ARs. Either way, I want one!!

Okay perfect guys, when you say flared are you referring to the opening of the well?

I'm in for one. You know eventually you can sell this, the release and the trigger guard as a kit... just saying...

    Thanks guys,
Misfit I will have to see how much material is there to be able to flare it. The one problem I see is that the mag well installs from the top of the stock. I don't think there is enough room to flare it without hitting the sides as you try to push it through. I will look and get back to you on it.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for all of the input regarding this mag well design. I get what Misfit is saying, and a flare would be nice except for the fact that the well is inserted through the top of the rifle stock with almost NO wiggle room left. A flared bottom edge would not permit the well from being inserted. Also, I thought of incorporating a chamfer on the inside edge of the well to act as a lead in angle but that would almost leave a sharp edge all the way around the opening. My compromise was to add a radius instead. That will provide a nice edge treatment and make it a little easier to insert the mag in a hurry if needed. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the amount of slop that was removed when we put this new design of mine into the stock and inserted several different magazines. I think everyone will really like the difference in look and feel. As Rob stated earlier, my intention is to make this mag well out of the same 6061-T6 aluminum with the milspec hard coating and anodized finish for durability and ease of use. This hard coating provides a really nice surface that allows the magazines to slip right in effortlessly. It's also wicked hard! I have a few minor tweaks to make to the design and then it's off to the machine shop for analysis and final price quote before we can come back here with a release date and a final price. I can't wait to see what my guy comes back to me with on pricing. He's very competitive. Hopefully, more good news here shortly. Thanks for all of the encouragement! It's been really awesome.

went to a group shoot a couple of weekends ago and while the extended mag release worked perfectly.....
yeh... i can't wait to replace the magwell... my pre-ban (MA) GI magazines were flopping around so badly i had to hold the mag to be able to ride the bolt forward.....
    i'm in for one.....

Inerlogic, that is awesome to hear about the release. I am sure the mag well will take care of the other problem. Did you get that other package?
