Published data is good but not always accurate. The actual weights of the rifles and of individual components is interesting and handy to have for comparisons or planing a build.

MVP Predator 20" fluted with scope, mag and cheap Turner knock-off sling w/ swivels, 7 Lbs 2.3 oz.

I need a bit more eye relief for the Leupold 1-4x20 VX-Hog so I'll be adding an EGW rail, better sling and some kind of back up sights.

Mine currently has a Bushnell 3x-9x by 50mm on it that I am wringing out.

Any volunteers to weigh their Predator 18.5" and Varmint 24" in pieces and post the results ?

I tried to weigh mine, but my scale appears to be wildly inaccurate. First it weighs 7.6lbs, then 12.4, then 3.7 and all within a minute of each other.

24" varmint in .308/7.62 with harris 9-13 bipod and vortex 6-24x50mm scope shows on my scale at home shows it weighing in the neighborhood of 13 pounds. it's not a very accurate scale though so my guess is it is maybe a couple pounds heavier.

I will weigh my 5.56 MVP Thunder Ranch when I get some time. That way it can be added to this page. I will weigh it empty. No scope, Bi-pod, Sling, Mag etc. Will update once I am done!

Did you have to do any fitting for the barreled action to settle in when you installed it into the stock.

Just the barrel channel. The rest was a perfect fit.

MVP Predator 18.5" with Warne steel rings and a SWFA SS 3-9X42 weighs in at 8lbs 3oz.

Add the caldwell bipod and a paracord sling, it's 9lbs 2oz

Thanks Marneaus. I went to the Mossberg site and found the specs. Starting at about 7.75 lbs I think the 20" Predator will ring in at about 9 pounds. I will have to decide which I want more...a long barreled Varmint, or the 20" Predator. Either one will be heavy. But, I can live with that.

That sounds like an agreeable weight, but I like longer barrels. Looks like I will need a caisson to haul mine.

The plus side of a heavier rifle is they have less muzzle rise and less felt recoil. But if you are hauling one around all day, there is something to be said about a light rifle compared to a heavy one.

10-4 that. And when you officially become an old fart what was heavy then is darn heavy now. But I do like a longer and heavier barrel so I just make due.
