After this deer season I notice the mag is in the right where I like carrying the rifle. Is there any option for a smaller mag than the 10 rounder? I know there are 5 round mags but from what I can tell they are just blocked out 10 round mags.

I think the only option available is to make your own. I believe woodchucker made some near flush magazines. Even the 5 round M1A mags I have stick out some. I think they are made that way so you can grab them.

The cut down 7.62 P-Mag doesn't fit exactly flush the way I shortened it. The floor plate sticks out just below the stock line. A kind of a 21st century take on the canoe floor plates you sometimes see on some pre war Oberndorf Muausers.

I get the idea from the pic but when I tried this for the 5.56 MVP I had I messed it up horribly.

The closest I have come without cutting a mag is a 5 round M1A mag. It is not flush, but not uncomfortable carrying it like that either, I wish Mag-pul would make 5 round factory mags.

That's the same metal magazine that .308 MVP's used to come with before the switch to P-Mags. They measure 3 and 3/8ths inch tall.

hmm, that seems a little pricey. I might have to see about it though since it's annoying to have the mag stick so far out.

    Really? $26 seems pricey?

Yah it is spendy and moreso compared to P-mags all day at 17.99. For real sticker shock take a look at Browning Ruger, and AICS prices !

Yeah I have 2 AICS mags, that hurt. There is no reason that they should cost that much. Anything over $20 for a standard or sub-standard capacity is too much.

That seems to be a better option, I'll have to see if I can find one when I got to place another order. Hunting season is over for this winter so it'll be a while.

Hey guy's, newbie here. I'm just an old hunter but (add 30 to my DOB, need to fix that) I just bought a scout in 308 and have been hoping to find a 5 round clip for deer hunting in NH. (max allowed) I talked to AICS on their SR25 5 round mag lists for $19 on gun mag warehouse. They had no feedback on whether it would feed properly but said (as I've read) Mossberg states SR25's should work. I've been looking for a 5 round low profile clip for moving thru brush too, but can't find a decent referral. Any help. PS: I have a magpul 10 on it's way with a 5 round limiter but would prefer a shorter mag for hunting.
PSS: Can anyone tell me how to contact admin. I haven't been on a forum for awhile and I can't find how to.

Welcome to the forum! 5 round magazines... I know Magpul makes a 5 round model. There is at least one other magazine maker the makes them in the LR308/SR25 format but I'm experiencing writer's block. There is a M1A/M14 format magazine model too but I never really paid much attention to them. Price wise, they are going to be riding that line you have on price. Not many people are looking a lot for that small a count, so the price goes up.

Web site wise, maybe 44mag or classic city firearms. There is a couple other sites that tend to be great on magazine prices but I'm visiting family, so don't have access to my computer.

I remembered why I didn't buy the 5 round PMAG 5 7.62 AC from magpul. It was because I got this reply from them last week when I asked if they had a 5 round that would work.
"Thank you for contacting us. From what I have seen you can use our LR/SR mags. You can use our 10 round LR/SR mag and our -5 round limiter. "

For $19 I may try the AICS 5 rnd mag and send it back if any issues. I was hoping to hear from someone who already tried this. Hard to believe no one has but I know seems guy's shoot 562 much more than 762/308.

PS: I see your a Moderator, can you fix my DOB, should be 9/13/56 not 86. Just bugs me.

That might be an admin thing but I'll see what I can do. You might want to check with ASC on whether they have a 5 round mag or not. I can remember.
