Hi guys . I recently picked up a wasr-10 just because I dont have an ak in my collection . The gun seemed to shoot pretty good with Irons so I bought a primary arms acss 1x6 with the 7.62 x 39/300 blackout reticle . I got it sighted in per the directions and decided to try the bdc to see if it was accurate . I soon discovered I need to ad a cheeck rest due to a very poor postion of my head in relation to a cheek weld but I was happy except for a couple of flyers which I atribute to the cheeck weld issue . I fired at 100 yds , 200 yds and the last target was a coyote target at 300 yds .
I know some people will say so what but considering the weapon and what it was meant for Im pretty happy . Any body else getting decent acuracy out of an AK ?

    300 yds

The closest I have is an Catamount Fury AK based 12 Gauge. Long range accuracy is not it's forte.

While I have an AK pattern gun I also shoot 7.62x39 mostly out of my CZ 527 Bolt gun in the caliber. More accurate and shoot cast bullets really well. I like th AK pattern for its durability but was looking for something with better ergonomics (closer to an AR15) and I discovered the SIG 556R. SIG pattern (AK gas system) but in a modern package with a better barrel but still using AK magazines. I put the Primary Arms 1x6 ACCS scope on it with the BO/7.62x39 reticle on it and it is a great shooter.

thats a nice rig ya got there intel . I have more ar-15"s than hogan has goats and just wanted to walk on the dark side . this gun shoots much better than the one I had back when they first started importing . I did handle a cz 527 not long ago and think it is a very nice well made gun If I didnt already have a remington 700 chambered in 300 blackout I would probably have my finger prints all over one . I was really suprised by the primary arms 1x6 I think I am going to get a cheeck rest to quit the bobble head movement I am getting . and knuckle down with a good rest just to see what I can do .

All the true AK's I've ever used were 4MOA guns at best and I've never had a desire to put more than a mag through one because of that. I don't like missing. I did own a few SKS's at one point as well but all those experiences really turned me off to the commie short case battle rifles. They're brilliant for battle done in the commie normal way of sending gobs of troops over a hill but not for any shooting I do. It's not that the platform is incapable it's that the manufacturers are almost all incapable of pulling off a well crafted copy. They're all commie quality.

All that said, there have been a couple experiences that tell me what the platform is capable of and I only wish the commies had the same dedication to quality over quantity that the Finns do. That is, at one point a close friend of mine lent me his Valmet for a practical rifle class I was taking (my AR wasn't yet built). That was a sparkly AK, not as accurate as an AR but it took 500 rounds in a day without needing cleaned and did 1.5 MOA performance throughout the day. Valmet sights are fantastic for a battle rifle but the rest of the rifle was silky too. Not like the box of cabbage leaves and cutlery feel that the normal AK gives you.

If I ever get a chance to own a Valmet of my own I will. I probably won't as they're registered AW's here, so after retirement at best. They're exquisite though. I might even take a Radom factory original Polish AK or a Galil but as far as anything produced by any other former commie country, welp, no.

you are always such a ray of sunshine Im glad you posted , debbie downer ;) . no combat rifle is going to be a bench gun . an ak is never going to be sparkly I owned a valmet at one time and it was nice but not worth the price paid for performance yield. all Im concerned with is hitting a coyote or piggy at a reasonable distance which for the most part translates to 200-300 yds max in my neck of the woods . for get the gallil the new production guns are having issues and the craftsmanship is worse than the old egyptian maadi . You do live on the left coast correct? I thought I remembered that but when you get old and senile things seem to purge themself frequently. Anyway I think it sucks when politics deny a person the right to own items that are not anymore dangerous than a steady diet of big mac's .

Jwb47, you have to take Spamassassin's comments with the thought that he is a competition shooting person. He does do other things but his world revolves around that, so his opinions are based on that style of shooting. He isn't wrong, just coming from a different perspective.

A battle rifle, especially an Eastern Block one is certainly not very accurate but it never was meant to be. As long as it has a reasonable chance of hitting the target at combat ranges and will operate in any battlefield condition, they call it good. Not to say they can't make an accurate rifle.

We on the other hand put more of an emphasis on precision and at times it shows. In some instances the AK outshines the AR and vice versa.

Because of Spamassisn's background and chosen focus, his comments reflect that. Take it for what it is and run with it or don't. I feel he doesn't intend ill will in what he says, he's just very passionate in his preferred focus.

I'm not down on AK's. I like the platform for what it is, a commie battle rifle. I'm very much down on the companies that make them so poorly given the option to do otherwise. That and about 1 very specific design element, the long heavy long-stroke piston.

Yeah, I'm on the left coast which makes 95% of all available handguns completely unavailable to me with entire brands being illegal to sell new (only secondary market sales allowed and those require BGC), almost every centerfire semi-auto has to be neutered (until they ban the bullet button) and even shotguns are tightly regulated so I can't have most of the interesting or useful ones. Single action revolvers and bolt action rifles are the best way to stay out of prison here.

I can't even fix my damaged 15, 20 and 30 round mags anymore.

You know what a AR-15 with a bullet button is? It's a porn star that's been castrated but still insists on starring in dirty movies.

lol castrated porn star , it must really suck having to deal with all that crap . My sister lives in san diego it is beautiful country surronding the cities I even had the balls to ride a wide glide down the 5 at 4:30 in the afternoon . something I will never forget . I to had plans to retire out of state I lived in illinois another repressive state . but I found my retirement home early and moved to the foothills of the ozarks in south east missouri . Lucky for me or not , my job requires I travel where ever I work my commute is not set to one place so it really dont matter where I live .
we have had conversations before and I know how you post I took no offense and was merely trying to inject some humor as sarcastic as it sounded . Im not well known for my people skills but more for my damn the torpedos full steam ahead personality .
Any way as soon as I can solve the cheek weld issue I will shoot some f class matches with the ak and post my scores . ( more poor attempt at humor )

Not a problem. Message was lost in the text. Easy to do. Lord knows I've had problems with it in the past.

Just sold my Saiga M3 last week:

Would have loved to keep it, but it's just not accurate enough for what I wanted to use it for.

I'm going over to the dark-side next (AR), but I'd like another AK at some point - probably with wood furniture and an under folder.
