Ran 38 rnds through it with crap ammo (Bear). then shot 20 rnds of Wolf Gold 75gr. I am a bench rest rimfire shooter, so I have to get used to the more powerful shooting. Going to range this morning and will try a couple more different rnds. It will come. I helped my buddy install a Jard trigger yesterday in his.

Good luck at the range this morning. My experience has been that 40-55 gr bullets from factory loaded ammo has been the most accurate out of the MVP. Most of the success with heavier bullets has been handloads worked up by the reloading geniuses here at the forum. ;)

Sounds like you're running less than decent ammo through it....try some match grade anything and I think you'll be just fine.

I have a Predator model with a swfa 10x42, with warne rings. No mods except for turning the trigger weight all the way down. I use Fiocchi 50 gr vmax, not sure if its the ammo,me or the combo of the two but i always open up my groups. Will try Black hills ammo sometime. But for now its fine just not always consistent. image.jpg image.jpg

Sorry for the delay. Working alot of overtime. Finally got to the range last Sunday with some Hornady Varmit 55 gr V-Max. See the results. The other 3 groups were around 2". My fault for those.

    New Guy Here.....Hello All.
Had the 24inch (5.56)MVP for a little over a yr. I have taken the MVP on a SD Prairie Dog hunt where it Performed great... My Rifle is very picky with what it eats. It's also very sensitive to OAL. The most accurate HandLoads that I have made for it will not fit in the Magazines.
I have found the LC Brass is the foundation for the most accurate Loads with the NATO Chamber, an with that being said it's no surprise, it likes to be loaded to the upper ends of the pressure charts.
My rifle will shoot a 52grHP Speer out to 450yrd as reliable as a clock. 62gr HP Nosler out to 600yrds.
    My pet Loads:
    40gr Balistic Tip, AA2015 or H4198.Coal. 2.225
    52gr Speer HP, Benchmark,XBR8208,H322.Coal. 2.300
    62gr Nosler HP, IMR4895,H4895,IMR4064. Coal. 2.370
Not going to give the powder charges, because some are Max+10%. Work up safely......:)

Hit the range on Thursday on my day off. Had some interesting results… one of which I had to re-zero because I swapped out the plastic trigger guard for an aluminum one… apparently messing with some screws was enough to screw things up lol. Anyway I rezeroed on the P223 with Hornady Z max. I then went to the board and attempted to verify the zero of different ammo in relation to the zero with Hornady Z max I set on my P223:
    Weather Stats:
    84*F
Wind - 5mph coming from my back to the target
    Humidity - 60%
    Overcast most of the day
    100 Yards:
    Hornady Z Max:
Original 3 shots were on the lower part of the target. I realized I was using the bag a bit different than I had before so I altered it back to how I set the rifle on the bag last 2 shots in the red. I considered the zero verified on the scope.

Black Hills Sierra Match King HP:

I'm out to lunch on this still. My original notes say on click to the right. But then again I had to adjust my original zero too so that will play a part in screwing up my notes. But the grouping wasn't as great as it was in the past. I don't have much of this ammo left but I' not sure I'm going to keep it in the stable as the higher grain ammo is very well stabilized in this 1:9 twist barrel… you'll see it later on at 200. As of right now my notes say just one click to the right to get this at 100 yard zero. I'm thinking 2-3 clicks right but I need more time with this ammo.

    PMC Xtac 5.56 NATO:

Original notes say 5 clicks down. I found that to be too much so 4 clicks down got me where I need to be. I'm also thinking one click to the right. I have a ton of this ammo so I will be playing with this to find the zero since it will be my main plinking round. I've also noticed the primer on this ammo is harder than the rest. Of all ammo this is the only one that randomly give me light primer strikes. Had one this day.

    Prvi Partizan 5.56 NATO:

I don't know. Last session this thing was grouping like a beast .9MOA. This session it's all over the place. I have ample stock in this ammo as well so I need more trigger time to see what the zero is and if this will actually group or not at 100 yards. Right now I have the zero set at 4 clicks down and 1 click to the right. Seems it should be 2-3 clicks right.

    Freedom Munitions Vmax new manufacture:

Welcome to the surprise of the day…. I really couldn't get this ammo to group the last 2 sessions. Low and behold this ammo came out like a champ!! Shooting a little over 1 moa. Zero is exactly as the Hornady Z Max zero so no adjustments to be made. It made it's round to 200 with this performance. If it is consistent in the next session I will put stock in this ammo over the Hornady as it's sooooooooooo much cheaper.

    Federal Hydra Shok SP:

This was another surprise… seemed to group fairly well. In a previous 3 shot group it was much tighter. I'll attribute it to a hot barrel. Zero is the same as Hornady Z Max. I took this out to 200 yards for S&G. Curiosity got me.

    200 YARDS

I have the Nikon P223 3-9x BDC 600 scope. I wanted to check out how well the BDC compensator works in conjunction with the SPOT on program.

    Freedom Munitions Vmax

I was pleasantly surprised and getting more confident that the Freedom Munitions is more consistent than I gave it credit for in the past. BDC reticle was clear at 200 yards and so was the 2" circle I was aiming at with 9X

Black Hills Sierra Match King HP:

eehh Not a huge fan right now. BDC 1 on the Spot on Program says 180 yards so I was aiming between BDC 1 and BDC 2 to compensate… I'm guessing why it's not grouping well my hold over may not have been the same each shot… I'm blaming user on this one but I'm still out to lunch on whether this ammo is grouping well in the barrel. Next time I'll just use BDC 1 and see if my shots tighten up.

    Federal Hydra Shok SP:

I ran out of bullets (i.e. miscounted my stash on the way out the door). So I had 4 rounds to fire. Not bad, not great either. BDC 1 says 197 yards. I'd say the Spot on Program is accurate in that assumption. I'd hit steel no problem with it.

    Prvi Partizan 5.56 NATO:

BDC 1 says 201 yards. I'd say that's accurate. I was also rushing some of the shots as the cease fire call was upon me and I wanted 5 shots before I headed down. I bet I can tighten up my groups once I find 100 yard zero and take my time between each shot.

Federal M855 5.56 NATO 62 gr green tips:

I've been having one hell of a time with this ammo. It spreads wider than JLo with a back up dancer at 100 yards but I was curious at 200 yards if it could stabilize…. my original assumption seems to be correct. the MVP literally hates this ammo. The picture says it all.

Hit the range yesterday to verify some 100 yard zeros:
    Hornady zmax 55gr
    Freedom Munitions vmax 55gr
    PMC Xtac 5.56 55gr
    Prvi Partizan 5.56 55gr
Black Hills Sierra Match 68gr hollow point
Hornady, Freedom, Black Hills I verified zero
PMC & Prvi was still not consistent with any zero I thought I had verified… One more shot next time to verify it.
    Some notes:
Hornady consistently gives me 1.5 - 2 MOA at 100 yards
Freedom Munitions has been consistent the past 2 sessions with 1 MOA at 100 yards which has been the shocker.
Black Hills has been consistent with 1.5 - 2 MOA at 100 yards which surprises me…. I'm not happy with this higher grain bullet and I feel MY barrel doesn't like it
    200 Yards:

I took the Hornady Zmax, Freedom Munitions Vmax and BH Sierra Match out to 200 yards for 5 shots slow fire (min 2 min between shots) to have a fairly cool barrel with each shot.
    Results:
    Hornady Z Max
    [IMG]

Seems consistent in the 2 MOA category as previously tested. Using the BDC on my scope at 200 yards. The bdc just covers the entire orange at 200 yards.

    Freedom Munitions

I continue to be surprised with Freedom Munition's 55gr Vmax new production ammo. Shooting SUB MOA at 200 yards blew my mind as well as having 3 shots so close at the established bullseye. I will be putting in ample stock of this ammo which literally costs less than half of that from Hornady.

Blackhills 68gr Sierra - it literally doesn't deserve a picture. It grouped for the second time the WORST out of the bunch with the exception of the M855 ammo (which I'm surprised hits paper at 200 yards). 3.8" or almost 2 MOA for something that should be more consistent from other people's ammo posting on the internet. My barrel hates it. I will be destroying the ammo calculation pages I have in my book and sending a pink slip to the ammo's cubical come Monday morning.

I will be focusing on 55gr and lower for my tests with the exception of the Barnes 62gr TSX bullet which I will be testing out for future hunting endeavors. I hear 50gr Vmax Fiocchi shoots like a beast so I will be testing that out in a month or so once I get my hands on it.

gorilla ammo.jpg finally got a chance to try my new ammo 69gr gorilla @100yrd . I'm pretty happy with it considering it's not a hand load . First shot was low because I didn't get comfortable and rushed it but the next 4 grouped nicely

A little follow up to my last post And a question if someone can answer it for me : My son and I were out with my mvp dialing it in to the point I can take out the center of the target with the 69grn gorilla ammo @ 100 yrds which with my burris c4+ scope I ordered new scope turret for that ammo . But while we were out there I had an assortment of 55grn bullets ...winchester / remington . And as we shot those they were consistently hitting 6 inches high . My question is .is this normal ? A 6 inch difference between a 64grn & a 55grn or is it me ?

I finally made it out to the range this morning.

This was a group of 4 62gn TTSX being pushed by 23.5gn Varget
With a COL of 2.260 (very bottom)
    20140817_133522-1.jpg
This was also a group of 4 62gn TTSX with 24gn of RE 15
COL was 2.250 The flyer on this group was shot #4 I did not wait for the barrel to cool much between shots.
I did swab my barrel between groups and allow some cool down time, but I did not let it get cold between groups. This was at 100yrds.
I'm shooting a predator model with the 18.5" barrel, and a 3x12x40mm scope
I worked up some Sierra Match King loads but they did have as good a result as these so 'll keep tweaking on them. 20140817_133531-1.jpg

Hows the accuracy going for patrol owners here? I have one and have had to do a few mods that will hopefully help mine out. I had to open up my barrel channel a bit as my stock magically warped after about a month. I also permanently dvcon'd my trigger guard and bedded the recoil lug. I hope my efforts prove positive at the range in a few days when i get off work.

Guys, I have found the same, my MVP Patrol 16.25" BBL with a 1:9 twist groups 62gn M8555 ammo 5" at 50 Yards. When I use 55gn 5.56x45 I get 1-2" groups at 50 yards (I changed the "V" open iron sites to Williams Fire sites which are fiber optic "iron sites"). It seems that the advertisements of this barrel stabilizing the "heavier rounds" is bogus.

So i took my patrol to the range today after having made some accuracy mods to the stock. I was thoroughly impressed when i touched off a ten round mag of winchester 69gr smk at a 100 yards to find a nice 7/8" group. I was happy to know that it is capable of a nice 10 shot group like that. Im still going to do a length of pull mod and a stock pack to get my shoulder/cheek contact just right. Cant wait to work up some good handloads

I guess I should have posted these here. the loads are on the targets, they are safe in my MVP Varmint but your milage my vary so work up to it and note Im using CCI 400 primers NOT MAGNUMS!ts!!

Heaviest bullets I have tried are the 69 gr BTHP sierras. lightest are 52 gr Speer varmints. the 52 grainers do not like anything above 3200 fps with the 1:9 twist. they vaporize any faster than that.

My MVP Varmint is stock other than my home gunsmithing trigger mods. I'm running a 6-18x50mm Vortex Crossfire II scope. i will post pics of it when I get my phone back from the repair shop tomorrow

I was starting to get some serious mirage during the last target

All targets were shot at 100m (Rifle is sighted in for 200m zero hence the height above center)
